In Greek Culture, the Family is Vital

Families are very important in Greek culture. The family is the primary source for economic, social and emotional support. Even though Greek families have been shrinking over the past decades but they remain close. Many families remain together for many years, and Greeks appreciate their parents their opinions and influence. Children often live with their parents until they turn adults. Some newlyweds stay with their parents until their own home is available.


The Greek alphabet has diacritical signs and three accent marks, called palaeo-, diaeresis, and acro-. Each mark signifies a distinct accent pitch on stressed vowels. Similar to breathing marks breathing marks indicate if a word-initial /h/ occurs in the phrase books. The last accent mark, periphrastic, indicates the full syllabic meanings of vowels.


Greeks are proud to be part of their family. Their culture is based on their shared identity. They will defend their family's name no matter how badly they fail in a project. The name of their parents influences their reputation, status, and honor. They are often praised for their family name when talking about a loved one and they will be honest and defensive when someone criticizes them. It is important to keep in mind that insulting a person is usually seen as a slap to their family.


The beauty and wit of the Greek language are also well-known. The visual arts, literature and theater were greatly influenced by the ancient Greeks. They had a profound impact on commerce, science as well as sports. The influence of the Greeks is evident in a variety of languages. These are just few of the many facets that the Greek language has to offer. There's something for everyone in this culture.


Greece was the largest producer of cotton, almonds, and pistachios during 2010. It also ranked third in olives, rice, and watermelon, with 1400,000 tons of tomatoes cultivated in 2010. While agriculture is only a small part in Greek life, it is a significant contribution to the economy of the country toys. It employs 12.4% of the nation's people and generates 3.8 percent of its GDP.


The Greek language has endured hundreds of years of war and civil wars and remains a vibrant cultural center. Its language has inspired millions of cultures and had a profound impact on the history of the world. Homer, also known as the "Father of the world" of Greek literature, is a wonderful example of Greek culture. Don't forget olive oil when you're here! In Greece, olive oil is not often purchased in the supermarkets by mothers. Many of them keep gallons olive oil in their kitchens.


Greeks are usually nuclear families, although two generations can live side by side in the same family. Parents may share an older relative in an old-age home with their child. The elderly relatives of children from Greece should visit them and arrange for their care. They may even care for their own elderly relatives. In some instances they are permitted to live with their parents in nursing homes. This allows their children the opportunity to look after their grandparents in a loving and secure environment.
